Barley news Australia: ABB Grain Ltd to consolidate grain processing and export container operations

Australian agribusiness, ABB Grain Ltd, has consolidated its grain processing and export container operations, bringing its South Australian-based operations under the ProGrain banner, according to the company’s 08 May release.

From next month, ABB Grain’s Port Adelaide and Two Wells grain processing facilities will be part of the Melbourne-based ProGrain business unit.

ProGrain is a wholly owned subsidiary of ABB. Its activities include innovative loading of bulk grain into shipping containers, fumigation, grain cleaning, grading and bagging facilities.

With Victorian facilities at Laverton North and Dooen (north of Horsham) ProGrain handles cereals, pulses, oilseeds, meals and other commodities.
Australia-wide it’s involved in packing or managing the export of 25,000 containers each year.

ABB Grain general manager storage and handling, John Warda, said ProGrain was widely known for providing top quality, personalised service.

“From June 1 ProGrain will be responsible for marketing and customer relationships for packing and processing services at Port Adelaide and Two Wells,” he said. “Also, ProGrain will assume control of coordination of the meals storage needs for external clients and ABB, nationally.”

ProGrain’s founder and general manager, Norm Lee, has taken on a broader business role, focusing on growing the firm’s customer base and business. Damien Lee will take over daily management of ProGrain’s operations.

“There are some exciting plans in the offing for ProGrain’s container and grain processing operations in Victoria and interstate,” Mr Norm Lee said.

“What this consolidation means for growers and customers (here and overseas) is a unified approach to providing superior service, increased quality assurance and more efficient use of logistics – put simply, making sure the right resources are in the right place, at the right time.”

ProGrain pioneered the use of inverters, a mechanism for tipping containers vertically during loading of grain to maximise the cubic capacity of each container.
